From Global Technology to Saudi Capability
Vi - Visual Illusions
Insights
Around the world, specialized companies have spent years perfecting the tools of immersive technology: interaction and motion tracking, projection mapping, spatial audio, kinetic systems, holographic and volumetric displays, AI visual art, drone shows and crowd interaction. Vi – Visual Illusions does not try to reinvent all of it from day one. Instead, our starting point is simpler and, we believe, stronger. Global Technology. Saudi Capability. VI Integration.
The principle has three parts. First, work with the best specialists available globally. Next, integrate their tools into experiences designed around one creative vision. Finally, make sure every project leaves more knowledge in the Kingdom than it found. This article explains how that path works for immersive technology in Saudi Arabia, and where it leads.
Why we start with global immersive technology
Building every display, sensor and control system in-house before delivering a single experience would take years of research, engineering and funding. Meanwhile, studios and manufacturers around the world already offer proven immersive technology for almost every layer of an experience. Our reference library shows the range:
Holographic retail. For the Nike Air Max Dn launch at Nike House of Innovation in Paris, HYPERVSN installed four holographic wall setups that visualized the shoe’s internal Dynamic Air technology.
AI and data art. DATAGATE, executed by Ouchhh in Nanjing, translates NASA Kepler data into a continuously evolving visual world across a 360-degree LED sculpture.
Real-time interaction at conference scale. For Adobe Summit EMEA 2016, Cinimod Studio drove 610 suspended RGBW cubes, an LED wall and an LED floor from visitor movement captured by a 3D camera.
Repeatable show formats. At CES 2020 in Las Vegas, Front Pictures and the Antigravity Show team synchronized holographic and augmented visuals with live performers for more than forty presentations.
The credited companies executed these projects; VI did not. They matter to us because they show the level of immersive technology that already exists, and the quality of execution the Kingdom’s major projects deserve.
Integration is the real capability
However, owning a long list of immersive technology is not what makes an experience exceptional. The value lies in bringing those systems together into one story. Most projects, by contrast, split concept, content, software, technology, engineering and live operation across separate suppliers, and the joins show. That is why we are building VI to connect those layers:
Concept: experience-led creative direction
Content: 3D, VFX, immersive and real-time visuals
Software: interaction, AI and control logic
Technology: display, tracking, sound, light and kinetic systems
Engineering: system design and integration
Show control: unified timing, media servers and live direction
R&D: prototype development and future proprietary systems
The opening show of the Global AI Summit 2022 in Riyadh, executed by Front Pictures and the Antigravity Show team, makes the point clearly. Robotic LED screens, projection mapping, lasers, 7.1 sound, performers and a 23-meter LED wall worked as one six-minute performance because show control held every element to the same timeline. Integrating immersive technology at that level is exactly the skill we intend to build locally.
How immersive technology know-how becomes Saudi capability
Equipment can be shipped in. Understanding, however, has to be built. For that reason, our collaboration model goes beyond supply. Future agreements with global technology companies are intended to include:
Technical and operator training
Creative technology workshops
Engineering knowledge transfer
Show-control training
Real-time graphics and interactive systems training
Installation and maintenance training
In practice, the method is learning inside real projects. International experts work alongside Saudi teams until the knowledge becomes local capability. As a result, the need to depend fully on external teams should decrease with each project, while our own ability to design, execute and operate immersive technology grows.
This matters because much of the craft only shows up under real conditions. Calibration, rehearsal, installation, live operation and maintenance are where a system either holds together or fails. For that reason, the intention is for Saudi engineers, operators and content teams to learn across those stages, not only in workshops.
The companies we have targeted
Our current plan targets specialized companies for collaboration and qualification across several fields. These include interactive experiences and tracking, immersive domes and projection systems, kinetic stage systems, and AI and data art. They also cover holographic and volumetric displays, large-scale 3D content, and professional and spatial audio.
Several studios credited in our reference library are among the companies targeted for collaboration, including THEORIZ, Front Pictures, Cinimod Studio, Ouchhh, HYPERVSN and BCN Visuals. We name them here as targets, not as confirmed partners.
From technology localization to technology creation
Localization is the first step, not the destination. As our teams integrate the best available immersive technology, they also learn where it falls short. That is where VI R&D begins. It is designed to bring engineers, software developers, creative technologists, 3D artists, AI specialists, interaction designers and show technicians together to develop software tools, interactive devices, control systems, special display modules and AI visual engines.
In this model, ideas start as small experiments, then become prototypes and move into testing. Only once they prove their effectiveness do they become part of our commercial ecosystem. Two long-term platforms give that work a home:
VI – Events Arena, a proposed 10,000–15,000 capacity destination in Riyadh, conceived as venue, laboratory, showroom, production center and training facility in one.
Digital Optical Skin (DOS), a future R&D platform under development that explores intelligent visual surfaces, starting with a planned demonstrator approximately 1.5 meters high.
The path runs from projects to products and, in time, to platform technology. Each stage of our immersive technology work is meant to prepare the next.
Riyadh as the starting point
We start in Riyadh not only because it is a market, but because it can be a center for building knowledge, talent and technology. Above all, the ambition is to attract global expertise to the Kingdom and develop Saudi specialists. From there, we aim to deliver experiences to international standards and, ultimately, create immersive technology that can be exported to the world.
Saudi Arabia’s role as host of the 2034 FIFA World Cup is one reason this matters. Around that program, our ambition includes fan experiences, sponsor pavilions, accompanying events and production support, wherever VI is contracted and approved by organizers. In the long run, the goal is a change of position: from a Saudi technology company that works with the world to a Saudi technology company that operates in the world.
